Leaving the Rhone valley at Riddes I headed up to Tzoumaz. The village, its population and its lifts are still dormant, waiting for winter to return when when snow attracts skiers in large numbers. So it comes as no surprise that I had the entire trail up to Col des Mines to myself. Following the trail along the Fare creek I enjoyed stunning nature, high planes, snow covered peaks in the distance and big view over the Rhone valley. There were just two draw backs, I had to be back home by 4pm preventing me from hiking beyond the Col des Mines, and the light was terrible, diffuse, flat and plain dull. I had hoped this would improve over time and with altitude, but no, this time weather did not accommodate me. It is unfortunate but then again who am I to complain, it was a wonderful walk and I have reason to return on another day. For now I just post the meager results, as a reminder to myself to keep this destination in mind and return on a better day.
