An afternoon stroll from Gryon to Refuge de Solalex. The clouds kept moving and the light kept coming and going sending deep shadows across the land, a dream for photography. Presumably the food served at Solalex is great but I cannot confirm it yet giving me a perfect reason to return and go further down the valley. Admittedly it was hard to select from all the photos, so I decided to post most of them.
One question on my mind these days are the image ratios used in western landscape versus eastern landscape paintings. The west clearly has a tradition of horizonal orientation and the east of vertical orientation. I always enjoyed the vertical orientation in Chinese scrolls with their stacked perspective. But I cannot quite put my finger on how this impacts the viewing experience. Clearly the eye tends to wander from the bottom to the top but beyond that? Anyways as you can see below I played with different formats. If you have thoughts, opinions or explanations how the orientation effects the viewing experience let me know. For now I hope you enjoy the images of today.
