Did I say in my prior post “last snow”? Hardly so.
It is a short, two stop train ride from Les Avants to Les Cases. Les Cases is just that, a train stop and nothing more, located in the middle of the mountains. However it is an excellent starting point for many hikes. Today I planned to do a quick hike up to Col de Jaman and from there back home. As it turned out the snow on the way up is about half a meter deep. Fortunately some fool like me must have tracked the same path a few days ago. His foot steps proved invaluable, without them I would have been at least knee deep with every step. The clouds were less cooperative, they did not break up, that is until I was back home. So the light was not exactly ideal, still it a was pretty walk, none the less.
One nice surprise along the way were the fluid, almost velvety shapes made from snow. Melting temperatures in prior weeks gave the snow a flowing shape and todays snow fall sugar coated it. The result is a collection of strange round flowing shapes reminiscent of those voluptuously curved and distorted Henry Moore sculptures. Images of these shapes in black and white become almost abstract photography when the clarity is reduced.
Three landscapes.

Back home and the sun came out.
